MOTOR PRIVATE POLICY
The policy covers vehicles used for domestic and pleasure purposes. The risks covered are Accidents, Thefts, Third Party liabilities and Fire.Lately double cabs have been classified as private car for purposes of insurance.
COMMERCIAL VEHICLE POLICY
The policy covers all types of vehicles whose core use is for commercial use even if that use is private. Thus single Cabin pick ups are covered under this heading of the policy.Commercial vehicle policies are further divided as own use that is, the insured’s own business and hire and reward where one is using the vehicle to charge for a fee for use of the vehicle. Thus the vehicles that have “ask for transport” sign should be properly be insured as commercial vehicle- for hire & reward. The risks covered are similar to one of private car.
MARINE POLICIES
This class of policy covers risks associated with damage and/or loss to goods while being shipped in or out of the country or being airlifted. A declaration is made on the nature of the goods carried and the nature of that carriage.The cost of valuation for the goods should include flight & conveyance costs. With effect from 1/1/2017 the Government prohibited insuring of goods coming into the country with Insurers outside the boundaries of Kenya.
MOTOR CYCLE
This covers motor cycles for Theft, Accidents, Fire and Third Party liabilities.The cover can be for own use or PSV commonly known as “Boda Boda”, in which case the cover should be motor cycle – PSV.
